A beginner's introduction on how to make chain mail, instructions on how to forge weld iron and steel and has a wealth of information on the history of smelting iron, the fundamentals of hardening and tempering steel, and some of the aspects of metallurgy of iron and steel as it is heated and hardened, then tempered for the appropriate metal. Damascus pattern welded steel for beginners is covered for knife making.
