Product Description

1) NOTHING BUT FREE (often called Growing old) is a song that started with words and concept. Sometimes it's words that come first, sometimes music. Sometimes the original riff or "hook words" end up changing before all is said and done. Musically, this song had quite a change from beginning to end. The words had started with a concept that made me think of Frank Sinatra's "It was a very good year", and the music a much more mellow folk feel than what it ended up as. I had tried this live and it just wasn't grooving, but I liked the words. So one day I had been working with a guitar student on "Last Dance With Mary Jane" by Tom Petty, and I was liking that groove and the harmonica being in there didn't hurt either. So the chords mostly stayed the same, slight changes there, but groove wise, the first time I tried it live, it seemed to work with the crowd that night, and then after with most crowds and or song writers I know.
